The KalThom Multifamily Residence is a case study of alternative living for a technology oriented and health conscious generation.
It uses the concept of the micro-unit along with a mixture of various flats of differing sizes. The 45 apartments are grouped in townhouse-type clusters of five units each, surrounding a private communal courtyard. Each townhouse consists of two ground floor apartments with a private entrance from the street and a private patio facing the courtyard, two second-floor apartments accessible by private stair via the courtyard, and a penthouse with a private roof terrace. This configuration removes the necessity for corridors around the courtyard.
Amenities include a private outdoor space for each unit, a large rooftop common terrace with ocean and mountain views, a communal courtyard, a fitness club, and a small retail space.
Materials such as industrial brick, gridded windows and corrugated metal help incorporate the innovative building into the existing urban fabric.
