Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition

Helsinki, Finland

THE WHALE, THE ARC, THE FOLD, THE PARK, THE WAREHOUSE
A space for people and art.

A site-specific proposal intertwining the urban and natural characteristics of the context, the project creates an environment where the experience of art, nature and city life can be appreciated in an uninterrupted flow.

A regular surface of massive pine planks rises above the port level, delineating a public plaza and wrapping the basic functions of the museum. The wood structure creates a logic for the park landscape to infiltrate, while the individual planks act as operable louvers, arranging the light penetrating the interiors. The plank surface engulfs the project program, visually hovers over the bay and orchestrates views towards the city.

It is our firm belief that a thoroughly great project is born from the participation of all the parties involved in the process. This is our bid to become a voice in the discourse which will bring the progressive values of the Guggenheim Institution to the city of Helsinki. You can view our proposal at the competition website.
